PowerVault Management

Dell calls this software "PowerVault Modular Disk Storage Manager". It is used to manage the PowerVault shelves that have internal RAID controllers (MD3XXX) but not the JBODs (MD1XXXX).

Install

Need ISO, one came with the shelf, not sure if it can be downloaded from Dell.

On SL5, I had a problem with the normal install procedure. It seemed that the helper scripts/program that start the install didn't work right, but I was able to run the actual installer directly.

Install Steps:

• mount ISO
• change dir to root of ISO
• execute linux/mdsm/SMIA-LINUXX64-10.80.A6.47.bin
• default install location is /opt/dell/mdstoragemanager
• the install adds commands in ~/.bash_profile to put /opt/dell/mdstoragemanager/jre/bin" on the PATH

Can now run SMcli (command line), SMclient (GUI); these are in /usr/bin.
